Privacy Policy

BuyThisAgain helps you remember the exact products you've bought before, so you can buy the right one again. There is no account and no sign-in. This page explains exactly what the app stores, where, and the one place it deliberately doesn't have an answer yet.

What's stored, and where

Everything you save — photos, labels, brand and model details, specifications, notes, price, and retailer — is stored locally on your device using Apple's on-device SwiftData storage. There is no cloud sync, no server-side copy, and no account for us to associate your data with even if we wanted to.

Camera and Photos

The app requests camera and photo library access only when you choose to add or edit an item, so you can capture or select photos of a product. Photos are kept on your device as part of that item's record and are resized and stripped of EXIF/GPS metadata before they're stored — the version on disk is never the exact file your camera produced.

On-device recognition

Barcode scanning (VNDetectBarcodesRequest) and text recognition (VNRecognizeTextRequest) run entirely on your device using Apple's Vision framework. No photo or recognized text leaves your device for this step, and it works with no network connection at all.

AI-assisted identification — currently parked, not active

BuyThisAgain is built to fall back to an AI identification service when on-device barcode and text recognition alone can't identify a product — sending only the photos for the specific item you're actively saving, only when barcode/text recognition already came up empty, and only with your review before anything is saved. As of this version, that service is not deployed and the app makes no network request for identification at all — every photo and detail stays on-device, full stop. If and when this changes, this page and the app's own Settings screen will say so before it does.

Purchases

BuyThisAgain offers an optional Premium upgrade after the free item limit. Payment is handled entirely by Apple through your Apple ID — we never see or store your payment details. Apple shares limited purchase information (such as whether you have an active subscription) with the app so it can unlock Premium features.

Buy Again

Tapping "Buy Again" opens a web search in your browser using details from the saved item — a UPC when there is one, otherwise brand, model, and key specs. This leaves the app entirely and is subject to your browser's and the search provider's own privacy practices. BuyThisAgain has no retailer integrations or affiliate links today.

Analytics and tracking

No third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. No advertising identifier is used. We do not sell or share your data with third parties — there's no data collected to share in the first place.

Your control over your data

You can edit or delete any saved item at any time from within the app. Deleting an item removes its photos and details from your device immediately.

Children

BuyThisAgain is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes — most notably, when AI identification moves from parked to active — the "Effective" date above will be updated and the change described plainly, not buried.
