What is SwornIn?
SwornIn is a commitment app for iOS and Android. You swear a promise with a deadline, choose the apps you'll lose if you break it, and sign your name to it. Your phone enforces the consequence automatically, even if SwornIn is closed when the deadline passes.
How is SwornIn different from a habit tracker or to-do app?
A habit tracker records what you did. SwornIn enforces what you promised: breaking a promise triggers a real, OS-level app lock, not just a missed streak or a notification you can swipe away.
Why does SwornIn need Screen Time access (iOS) or app usage access (Android)?
It's how SwornIn actually locks the apps you chose when you miss a deadline. Without it, breaking a promise would just trigger a notification you could swipe away — which defeats the entire point.
Can SwornIn see which apps I chose to lock?
On iOS, no — Apple's picker gives SwornIn an anonymous token for each app you select, never the app's name or icon. On Android, SwornIn's on-device blocker does need the actual app list to enforce a lock, but that list stays on your phone; there's no server it could be sent to. Details in the Privacy Policy.
What exactly happens when I break a promise?
Your first broken promise locks your chosen apps for 24 hours. A second locks them for 48 hours. There's no early unlock and no skip once a block starts — not by you, not by us.
What happens after a third broken promise?
A third broken promise doesn't lock an app at all — it locks SwornIn itself. The whole app becomes a paywall, and you can't make a new promise until you pay to reset it. The first reset is $2, then $4, then $8 — the price doubles each time you pay.
Can I end a promise early?
Only a recurring (daily/weekly) promise, and only on a day you've already kept that day's occurrence — ending it then closes out the series without counting as a break. A one-time promise, or a recurring one you haven't kept today, can't be ended early: you either complete it or it fails.
Does deleting the app or my data erase my broken-promise record?
No. Your strike count and lifetime broken-promise count are stored in your device's secure storage specifically so this isn't an escape hatch — they survive "Delete all data," deleting the app, and reinstalling. Paying to reset restores access, never the record itself.
Do I need an account, or does SwornIn use the cloud?
No account, no cloud, no server. Everything SwornIn stores stays on your device. Details in the Privacy Policy.
Is SwornIn available for both iPhone and Android?
Yes. On iOS, blocking is enforced through Apple's own Screen Time APIs. On Android, it's enforced by a local, on-device blocking module.
