Privacy Policy

NoOut is built to know as little about you as possible. Signing in is always optional. This policy describes exactly what the app collects whether or not you sign in, and where that data lives.

Solo Mode: on-device only

Solo Mode works fully offline and needs no account. Everything it stores lives in a local database on your phone. This includes:

• Your commitment settings: the distraction label you chose, your penalty duration, and your active hours
• Your signal history: when signals fired, whether you responded in time, and your current streak
• Any active penalty and its expiry time

None of this is transmitted anywhere unless you choose to sign in (see below). Solo Mode itself has no account, no login, and no server to talk to.

Signing in and cloud backup (optional)

Signing in is never required to use NoOut and unlocks two things: your history backed up off-device, and Global Mode, a shared daily signal everyone who opts in receives at the same moment. The sign-in method is tied to your device's platform — Sign in with Apple on iOS, Sign in with Google on Android — and each account is scoped to that one method. We do not link or merge accounts across sign-in methods. If you switch from an iPhone to an Android phone or back, you're starting a fresh account on that device — your history does not follow you across the switch. Signing in sends the following to our backend (hosted on Convex, a third-party backend provider):

• An identifier from Apple or Google confirming who you are, and your email address if that provider shares one with us — stored for support purposes only, never used to look up or merge accounts
• A session token used to keep you signed in — this is not your password, and we never see your Apple or Google password
• Mirrored copies of your commitment, signal, and penalty history (the same data already described above), so it survives an app deletion or a new device on the same platform
• A push notification token for your device, used only to deliver your signals and any broadcast you're a participant in

This mirrored data is a backup, not the source of truth — whether you passed or failed a signal is always decided on your device, never by our servers. You can export a copy of everything backed up this way, or permanently delete your account (which deletes your backed-up history, identity records, and device tokens from our servers) at any time from Settings.

Screen Time access

When you choose apps to protect, you pick them through Apple's own Screen Time picker (FamilyActivityPicker). Apple deliberately does not tell NoOut — or any app — which apps you selected. NoOut only ever receives an opaque, anonymous token for each choice, which it uses solely to apply and lift restrictions. NoOut cannot see, store, or transmit the names or icons of the apps you protect.

NoOut requests Screen Time access for your own device only, at your own request. It is not a parental control tool and does not support monitoring another person's device.

Notifications

In Solo Mode, and for Global Mode's daily signal, notifications are scheduled directly on your device — no push notification service or third-party server is involved. If you sign in, your device also registers a push token so an occasional broadcast we send to everyone signed in can reach you; this goes through Apple's and Expo's push notification services and is delivered as an ordinary notification, the same as any other app's push alerts.

What NoOut does not collect

• No location data
• No camera, microphone, or photo library access
• No contacts access
• No advertising identifiers or ad SDKs
• No analytics or tracking SDKs, as of this policy's effective date

What changes later

A planned Trusted Contacts feature will let you optionally notify people you choose when you succeed or miss a signal. This policy will be updated before that feature collects any new data, and nothing will move off your device — or be shared with anyone else — without your explicit choice to enable it.

Children

NoOut is intended for use by the device owner on their own device and is not directed at children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Effective" date above will be updated. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
